Iraqi Sweet: Halawa Dahina

Ingredients 

4 cups of sugar 

1 Cup of water

 1 Cup of Ghee

 3 cups of Flour

 2.5 Cup of Coconut

 

 

Directions: 

We put 4 cups of sugar in a bowl, add a cup of warm water and start to stir it a little, then add half cup of ghee and stir the mixture well, then add 3 cups of flour and mix it well, then add water by third of a cup if necessary to make the mixture more homogeneous. We put 1/3 cup of ghee in the grill pan, add one cup of shredded coconut, then pour the mixture over the shredded coconut and distribute the rest of the ghee with about 3 tablespoons over the surface of the mixture and then add the remaining coconut on the surface of the mixture and put it in the oven is at a temperature of 120 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Note: You must preheat the oven 15 minutes before baking, leave it for 3 hours in the oven until the sides become brown, then put it at the bottom of the oven with a quiet heat from the top and leave it for three minutes with observation, then we turn off the oven leaving the bowl inside and then we flip it and cut it.
